Define the problem in one sentence
Before features, state whose problem the product solves. Define success through user behavior or a business result. “Build an app” is not an outcome; reducing waiting time or creating a sales channel is.
Scope around the user journey
Map the work users do from start to outcome instead of starting with a feature list. The first release should complete that journey at the smallest reliable scope.
Make technical decisions at the right time
- Data ownership and security requirements
- Existing systems to integrate
- Expected users and transaction volume
- Content and operational ownership
- Deployment, maintenance and support model
Delivery plan
Discovery, prototype, design, development, testing and launch need visible outputs. Show working increments regularly and assess the time and cost effect of scope changes in writing.
